Importance of Process

I want to structure this class in a way that is helpful not just for your current projects but for your future endeavors as well. I have broken down our semester into 3 sections (the 4th being distribution will be covered in just one day).

PRE-PRODUCTION, PRODUCTION & POST PRODUCTION (aka as Prep, Principal Photography and Post) No matter what type of moving image you are making, you can benefit from understanding this process.

Making a Film/Video

DEVELOPMENT/PRE-PRODUCTION

Provides you with time to brainstorm, work out story, collect or build tools or team, find references or inspiration. Also ensures that if you work collaboratively that you will be a ble to communicate your vision to others accurately. This includes things like character development, story boards, budget and set design.

PRODUCTION

Principal photography begins: Shooting film/video, recording live sound, music, In camera effects, in some cases animation.

POST PRODUCTION

Editing, adding graphics, animation, special effects, music, Voice Over. Color correcting (grading) and record and mixing of audio.

DISTRIBUTION/AUDIENCE

Where will this film/video live? Who will see it? Getting it screened in festivals, galleries or streaming services.
